Waiting
List
The Society currently has a waiting list for plots. You can apply to join
the waiting list if you live in Redbridge or an adjacent local authority
- Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Epping Forest, Waltham Forest and Newham.
Other applicants will be accepted only if there is a proven local connection
such as working in Redbridge or family in the local area.
At present people on the waiting list should be able to have an allotment
within a year of applying but this depends on the turnover of plots.
Membership
Secretaries
Marian Hogg and Jackie Greig are now joint membership secretaries. For
enquiries please email skgasmembership@live.co.uk
Enjoy
an allotment
By having an allotment you can grow much of your own fruit and vegetables
and be sure it is absolutely fresh and grown just how you want. It costs
from just £15 a year to rent an allotment 30’ by 45’.
This includes rent, water supply and society membership. Larger plots
are available. You can make big savings by growing your own fresh food.
There are
allotments to rent in Seven Kings and Goodmayes with sites in Vicarage
Lane South, Benton Road, Wards Road, (all off Ley Street) and behind Poole’s
Court flats in Goodmayes Lane. Click the link on the left for a map. Car
parking is available on or near all allotment sites.
Join at the Society Trading Huts in Vicarage Lane (South side) or in Goodmayes
Lane (just behind Poole’s Court Flats) on Sunday mornings between
9.30 am and 11.45am. Or email Roger Backhouse (Publicity) on rogerbackhouse@ukonline.co.uk
If you prefer to grow organic food without synthetic chemicals, then an
allotment is just the garden for you.
What
can I grow?
Fruit, flowers and vegetables are all possible. Local allotment gardeners
grow a remarkable variety including aubergines, beetroot, broccoli, cabbages,
cauliflowers, chicory, chinese vegetables, coriander, courgettes, cucumbers,
curly kale, damsons, endives, fennel, flowers, garlic, lettuce, marrows,
melons, new potatoes, onions, peaches, plums, pumpkins, summer and winter
radishes, raspberries, rhubarb, spinach, squashes, strawberries, sweet
corn, tomatoes and many more…
How much time does it take?
That depends on you. Usually, gardening a small allotment takes between
2 and 3 hours a week but some gardeners like to spend more time to get
the very best results.
